Day after day, whatever the weather

Continuous observations and measurements for 160 years
The first measurements began in 1863, when the village priest of Grächen record temperature, wind, pressure and precipitation. He determin the time of the measurement using a sundial.

The continuous measurement of the weather over 160 years forms the basis for MeteoSwiss’ climatological statements. Bas on these surveys, we know how the climate in Grächen has chang. Together with the long data series from other locations, this makes it possible to obtain climate information in the past, present and future. MeteoSwiss guards the collect knowlge like a precious treasure. And new observations and measurements are add every day.

Thank you very much for the valuable observations

Grächen occupies a special position as one of the four most important climatological stations. Since the introduction of the automatic measuring station 10 years ago, Mr and Mrs Andenmatten have been reading their instruments manually as a parallel measurement. On June 1, 2023, manual observation will finally end after 160 years.

The findings from the very long parallel phase provide the reference for the turkey phone number library homogenization of measurements from automatic stations throughout Switzerland. The additional data from Mr and Mrs Andenmatten are therefore invaluable.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your 18,000 accurate reports and wish Mrs. and Mr. Andenmatten all the best in their well-deserv retirement!

Instrumental reading in the weather hut, three times a day. The long parallel measurement allows MeteoSwiss to remove breaks in the long data series. These are caus by any change in the measurement conditions, e.g. shifting or changing the height of the measuring station, changing the type of instrument or changing the environment. In Switzerland, over 250 part-time weather observers are how to get a transparent taskbar in windows 11 employ at 23 locations for the benefit and service of the public. Most of them work for a company that has a awb directory presence 24 hours a day. This means that MeteoSwiss also receives weather reports at night from power plants, police stations, a security company or the army.

All observers estimate the meteorological visibility. The transparency of the air can be determin by asking how clearly certain visual targets are recogniz.

The current weather describes the prevailing weather conditions: Is there a rain shower? Is there fog? Can I see clouds passing by?

In the supreme discipline of cloud identification, the different types are distinguish. Recognizing the details is sometimes quite tricky and requires practice and experience.
