As in the days before, large cumulus clouds form over the Alps and on the southern side of the Alps on Tuesday afternoon. Towards the evening, a few showers and thunderstorms form, which were generally harmless. One cell, however, was particularly bad. It came from the east and mov across Lake Lugano just south of Lugano.

The thunderstorm gusts were also notable. Although the Lugano weather station was not directly hit by the cell, the cold and powerful “outflow” of the storm brought the station a gust peak of 84 km/h from the taiwan phone number library southeast and a temperature drop of around 5°C.

Cloudy Wnesday morning in Ticino
Although the thunderstorm activity decreas rapidly during the night into Wnesday, a certain amount of shower activity and fairly compact cloud cover remain, which also dominat the picture in the south on Wnesday morning.
In stark contrast to the northern side of the Alps
In between – in the inner Alpine regions – a mix of sun and cloud fields prevail.

What was responsible for the difference?
The surface weather map shows that Switzerland was also on the southern ge of a high pressure system with its centre north-west of the British Isles today (Wnesday). For the northern side of the Alps, this meant a bise current that brought in dry air.
